I am a professional drummer, percussionist, and educator with over 30 years of experience playing and teaching drums and percussion.
I began playing drums in the school band when I was ten years old. It was there I learned to read music, learned the rudiments, and understood the value of music from a social standpoint and feeling a sense of belonging. I am also the product of a very musical family. My dad played music for a living for many years in the Pocono Mountains, while my younger brother and I grew up jamming in our parents’ basement. Having a professional musician for a dad also gave us the unique opportunity to sit in and play with a professional band on occasion. Through that, I gained valuable experience that I still rely on to this day.
My professional career began when I served in the U.S. Army Band as a drummer and percussionist. After which, I attended Mansfield University where I earned a Bachelor of Arts in music. Soon after graduation, I followed my brother to Atlanta, GA to pursue a career in music. I spent twenty years there performing in the Metro-Atlanta area and around the southeast region with cover bands, original bands, wedding bands, at churches, concerts, and music festivals. Notably, I served at Northpoint Community Church for three years as a drummer and auxiliary percussionist, toured with an original rock group, Acres, with whom I recorded two CDs, and Almost Elton John, a high-energy Elton John tribute show that performs all over the U.S., which I still perform with occasionally. I also served as the praise and worship band director at Prince of Peace Church, Fayetteville, GA., and for three years as their youth band director, as well as Concord Liberty Church, Glen Mills, PA.
My education includes a diploma from the Armed Forces School of Music, Littlecreek, VA, a Bachelor of Arts from Mansfield University of Pennsylvania, and a Masters of Music in jazz studies from Georgia State University.
While I love performing, I also love sharing music and drumming with others. This is why I got involved in teaching. You can find out more about lessons and my teaching philosophy on the lessons page.
